Welsh food and drink producers looking to increase their share of the export market will be travelling to Germany this month for one of the world’s largest food trade fairs - Anuga (October 10-14).
The biennial event held at Koeln Messe in Cologne is one of the most important exhibitions for companies looking to break into, or expand, their export business. Anuga 2007 was attended by nearly 6,600 suppliers and more than 163,000 visitors from almost every country in the world.
Leading the Welsh contingent will be the Welsh Assembly Government’s international trade and investment arm with the Wales the True Taste stand, located in the Fine Food Hall. A showcase of Welsh produce available at the show can also be seen on the stand. Also, visitors to the Wales the True Taste stand will be able to get a flavour of Wales through the sampling sessions taking place on the stand. Available to try will be Radnor Hills’ Heartsease Farm elderflower and white grape and red grape and blackcurrant drinks, Welsh Lamb, and Cadog cheese. Daioni flavoured milk will also be available to try as well as traditional Welsh teatime favourites- Welshcakes and Bara Brith.
Exports of Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef were worth £108 million last year, making a significant contribution to the nation's economy. Hybu Cig Cymru/Meat Promotion Wales will be in Anuga’s Meat Hall attempting to increase sales still further by expanding existing international markets and developing new ones for our premium quality Welsh produce. Customers and potential new buyers will be treated to cooking demonstrations throughout the show on HCC's fresh new-look stand, and they will have the opportunity to discuss new business opportunities with Welsh exporters and HCC's marketing team.
In the Dairy Hall, Milk Link will be showing a very large range of cheese and milk products including its Cadog cheeses made at Llandyrnog Creamery in north Wales.
Welsh soft drinks manufacturer Radnor Hills will showcase its recently launched Jufru 330ml range in the Drinks Hall. Jufru is one of the first of its kind - a still 60% fruit juice and spring water drink with no preservatives. It utilises brand new packaging technologies, to give a long ambient shelf life in a PET bottle with no added preservatives. As it is not a hot filled product, it only uses a lightweight PET bottle, therefore reducing impact on the environment. Available in three flavours; orange, apple, apple & blackcurrant, it counts towards one of your daily five portions of fruit, and is a completely school compliant.
Also in the drinks hall are Pembrokeshire based Trioni Ltd which produces and sells fresh organic Welsh milk.
The company also produces the award-winning Daioni range of branded flavoured Welsh organic milk drinks in strawberry, chocolate and banana. The drinks are low in sugar and fat and contain no artificial flavourings or colours and are packaged in handy 250ml and 125ml cartons. They have recently developed a new product - 1 Litre UHT Organic semi-skimmed milk. Trioni also produces cereal portions of milk which are excellent for airlines and trains.
In addition, two companies - Ty Nant Natural Mineral Water and Real Crisps – have hired meeting space at the Wales the True Taste stand where they will meet with buyers and distributors during the show.
