Welsh food and drink producers are preparing to tantalise the taste buds of visitors to the BBC Good Food Show, when it opens at the NEC in Birmingham next week (November 25-29).
A number of Welsh food and drink producers will be exhibiting at the event under the auspices of the Welsh Assembly Government’s True Taste brand.
Many of the companies will be bringing new products to the Show which is one of the biggest consumer events in the food and drink calendar.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to taste a wide variety of award-winning Welsh food and drink at the Wales the True Taste Café.
Delicious hot and cold dishes, salads, sandwiches, cakes and desserts have been created using winning products from the Wales the True Taste Food & Drink Awards.
The menu features main dishes such as the Show Special – Haddock in Parson’s Laverbread batter with Lemon – and traditional Welsh favourites with a twist like Barabrith and Butter Pudding with Danzy Jones Liqueur, and Welsh Lamb burgers served in ciabatta with oven wedges and Rachel’s mint yogurt.
There is an array of drink too including smothies from Frobisher’s and Will and Jamie’s, Decantae mineral water, Alderwicks elderflower spritz, Daioni organic flavoured milk, Welsh Brew Tea, and Fair-trade coffee. Also Radnor Hills Heartsease Farm’s blend of sparkling spring water and juice drinks: white grape and elderflower and red grape and blackcurrant.
Earlier this year the Welsh Assembly Government launched its Food Tourism Action plan to develop links between food and tourism. Information about Wales as a holiday destination can be found next to the True Taste Café at information points hosted by Visit Wales and Welsh Rarebits.
Among the companies exhibiting at the BBC Good Food Show is Cardiff based Capital Cuisine which will have a host of new products on show.
Included is the True Taste Gold Award-winning Classic Pesto, along with Halen Mon cured Salmon which was a reserve winner.
Also at the Show will be the company’s new Chicken Liver & Brandy Parfait, Game Terrine, Salmon & Dill Pate, Roasted Halen Mon Spiced Salmon, Slow Roasted Pork & Caramelised Apple Terrine, Black Olive Tapenade, Humus, Cumberland Sauce, Spiced Pear Chutney, Tomato and Chili Jam, Beetroot & Red Onion Relish and Red Onion Marmalade.
Clarks UK Ltd will be launching two new products – ‘No Nut’ Nutty Chocolate Spread, and natural liquid fruit sweetener, Fruit Sweet.
The Newport company’s new natural sweetener has a low GI ingredient and has 25% less calories than sugar and is suitable for diabetics and vegans. While its’ ‘No Nut’ Nutty Chocolate Spread has proved a hit with children and parents. In addition the company will be showing its Original Blended Maple Syrup and 100% Pure Maple Syrup.
Trioni Ltd will previewing its new branding for its 250ml range of Daioni organic flavoured milk drinks. Daioni organic flavoured milk drinks are available in strawberry, chocolate and banana flavours and come in two sizes, 125ml and 250ml. The Pembrokeshire company will be showing its Daioni longlife semi-skimmed milk which is available in 125ml and 1 litre packs.
With Christmas just around the corner, Mid Wales producer, Welsh Farm Organics will be taking orders for its boxes of Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef, as well as Christmas turkeys.
The lamb boxes consist of half a lamb butchered into a variety of cuts: 1 leg, 1 shoulder, 2x 3 bone racks of lamb, 2 shanks, 1 stew pack, 10x lamb & mint burgers, 1 pack of liver.
The beef boxes comprise of: 2x 1kg roasting joints, 2x rump steaks (8oz), 10x beef burgers, 2 packs of stewing steak, 2 packs of mine, and 2 packs of chuck steak.
Elan Valley Mutton Ltd will be taking a full selection of mutton cuts to the BBC Good Food Show, including its True Taste award-winning mutton leg joints.
New at the show will be the Powys producer’s new Mutton & Rosemary Salami, and Mutton Pies – delicious short crust pastry with mince mutton and vegetable filling. Taster pots of Elan Valley Mutton cawl made with diced mutton, root vegetables, potatoes and leeks will be available for visitors to try.
Thirsty show goers will be able to buy Brecon Carreg Welsh natural mineral water from Carmarthenshire based Brecon Mineral Water. The Brecon Carreg natural mineral water will be available in 50cl still (flat cap) and 50cl sparkling varieties.
Celtic Pride Premium Welsh Beef Irfon Valley Welsh Lamb and a range of Welsh sausages will be available at the Show from Welshmeatonline.
The Welshpool company will also be offering ‘food to go’ including Welsh pork pies, sausage rolls, samples of Welsh sausage hot dogs, as well as selling a range of Welsh condiments: Welsh Red Mustard, Welsh Mint Sauce, Welsh Horseradish and Welsh Apple Sauce.
The Snowdonia Cheese Company will be selling its popular colourfully packaged cheeses which include Black Bomber, Green Thunder, Red Devil, Pickle Power, Ginger Spice, Amber Mist, and Bouncing Berry.
Monmouthshire micro brewery, Kingstone Brewery from Tintern, makes real ales adapted from traditional recipes to suit modern palates. The award-winning brewery will be showing its range which includes:Tewdric’s Tipple (3.8% ABV), Challenger (4.0%ABV), Kingstone Gold (4.0%ABV), Classic (4.5%ABV), Abbey Ale (5.1%ABV), Humpty’s Fuddle (5.8% ABV), 1503 (4.8%ABV), and No 1 Premium Stout (4.4%ABV).
