Food and Drink Advisory Partnership

The Food and Drink Advisory Partnership will take forward the development and implementation of the Food and Drink from Wales Strategy:

  • ensuring effective strategic linkages with the various sector and cross sector groups; and
  • providing advice to the Welsh Assembly Government.

The Partnership was established to replace the existing Agri-Food Partnership Advisory Group from 1 October 2008.



APPOINTMENT TO CHAIR OF THE FOOD AND DRINK ADVISORY PARTNERSHIP

Rural Affairs Minister Elin Jones has appointed Dr Haydn E. Edwards to the post of the Chair for the Food and Drink Advisory Partnership (FDAP).  The Food and Drink Advisory Partnership will take forward the development and implementation of the Food and Drink from Wales Strategy, ensuring effective strategic linkages with the various sector and cross sector groups, and providing advice to the Welsh Assembly Government.

The Partnership was established to replace the existing Agri-Food Partnership Advisory Group from 1 October 2008. Dr Edwards’ appointment starts on 1 July 2009 and is for a period of three years.

Elin Jones said: “Dr Edwards has extensive experience of working with the Welsh food industry at an academic and practical level and as Director of the successful Food Technology Centre at Coleg Menai, Llangefni.

“I am pleased to appoint Dr Edwards to this important role at a time when the Welsh food and drink industry is really taking off, strongly supported by the Welsh Assembly Government.”

Dr Edwards has been the Principal and Chief Executive of Coleg Menai since 1994.  He holds a number of public offices and brings a wide knowledge and understanding of the Welsh food and drink sector to the post.  Dr Edwards has been instrumental in developing the Coleg Menai Food Technology Centre at Llangefni in North Wales which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary.  The Centre has been a key facility for food businesses wishing to develop and market new and innovative food and drink products and has been instrumental in creating new jobs in the food processing sector in Wales.
