Welsh food and drink producers will be heading to London to show their wares to the UK’s restaurant trade in a bid to secure more business. Welsh producers will attend The Restaurant Show at London's Earl’s Court 2 from 12-14 October 2009, attracts over 350 suppliers of food, drink, interiors and tableware.
Trealy Farm Charcuterie has a new look and a new name which will be launched at the show. Now known simply as Trealy Charcuterie, it has new branding and packaging and will move into larger premises, still located near Monmouth, in the New Year. Some things have not changed though – their air-dried range, including products rarely made in the UK such as salamis, chorizos, pancetta, air-dried ham and coppa, continue to win national acclaim with Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall declaring them 'the best artisan charcuterie in the UK’.
This year they are on line for a clean sweep of major food awards, already winning the Great Taste and Made In Britain and awaiting final decisions on their shortlisting for Local Food Heroes and the BBC Food & Farming Awards. Other specialities include Bresaola, Boudin Noir and 100% meat semi-dried cured sausages. Now entering their fourth year of production, they already count many well-known restaurants amongst their high profile customers.
There will be new products on show from Pontypridd-based Otley Brewing. Established in 2005, the company will be launching Columbo 4%, a golden ale, and 06 Porter 6.6% , an old style Porter. They will be on display alongside the existing award-winning range of bottled conditioned beers – 01, 08, Dark 0 and 0 Garden. The company aims to bring a fresh modern look to its beers and attract new customers to real ales. The range has won a host of awards, most recently True Taste awards for its 01 and 08.
It is the first visit to the show for GRH Foods from Pwllheli who will be showcasing their new range of block, grated and sliced hard cheeses. Their range of Signature block and grated cheeses has been available for the last six months through foodservice and cash and carry customers across the UK. They supply Welsh cheddar and have also launched Gino’s Pizza cheese which continues to grow in popularity. They specialise in supplying cheddar, mozzarella and territorial cheese to the industrial, wholesale and food service organisations throughout the UK.
Having recently moved in to purpose built food production premises in Bedwas, Caerphilly, Capital Cuisine see attending the show as a further step in the marketing of a unique quality food product range, explains founder and chef Colin Gray.
“We want to get the business in front of as many restaurateurs and caterers as possible. We hope to showcase the product range and increase the awareness of our bespoke service, which allows chefs and caterers to turn their ideas into reality.”
Products on show will be True Taste Gold award winning Classic Pesto, Halen Mon cured salmon, Spiced roasted salmon fillet, chicken liver parfait, confit duck terrine, coarse game pate, pressed seafood terrine, red onion marmalade, spiced pear chutney, black olive tapenade, humus and other chutneys and accompaniments.
North-Wales based Rhug Organic Farm will be promoting its new range of pies that have won Great Taste Gold awards this year. Prime, slow-cooked, tender cuts of meat are encased in shortcrust, all butter pastry in four mouthwatering flavours: Steak, Mushroom and Red Wine; Steak and Ale; Roasted Vegetable and Goats’ Cheese; and Chicken and Mushroom.
Its Pork and Black Pudding Sausages also won a Great Taste Gold award and will be on display along with a small range of pre-packed organic meat. Rhug sells organic home-reared beef, pork and lamb, along with organic poultry and game on its estate in Corwen, North Wales, nationwide to farmshops, delis and restaurants.
Real Crisps will be showing off its new look packaging at the show. If you ever wondered what sea salt and malt vinegar would look like if it were a person, the popular handcooked crisps brand has the answer – it is using the faces of real people to bring each of their 12 flavours to life. The Newport-based company produces flavours ranging from the spicy jalapeno to the rich mature cheddar and spring onion, with the face on each pack representing the taste sensation contained inside.
