Shoppers are in for a treat during British Food Fortnight (19 September – 4 October) as the Wales the True Taste Trailer brings award-winning food and tasty tips to shoppers at Tesco stores across Wales.
The Welsh Assembly Government owned mobile demonstration unit – which will visit seven locations - features a host of winning products from the Wales the True Taste Food and Drink Awards and which are available in Tesco stores. Producers include Edwards of Conwy, Really Welsh, Rachel’s Dairy, SA Brains, and the Authentic Curry Company.
Staff from Hybu Cig Cymru / Meat Promotion Wales will be on hand to give cookery demonstrations using fine Welsh produce, including Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef, and giving away samples to shoppers.
"HCC is delighted to be working in partnership with leading supermarkets to showcase the excellent quality of Welsh food, including Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef, which is available in their stores,“ said Alan Morris, HCC Communications Manager.
“Our cooking demonstrations will feature some tasty and easy to make recipe ideas for the coming winter months which will suit every pocket."
Said Mark Grant, Tesco Senior Buying Manager for Wales, “Tesco is pleased to promote the Wales the True Taste Trailer and to offer customers award-winning Welsh food and drink. Consumers are increasingly looking out for regional and local produce and we are delighted to be able to offer them a wide range of products.”
Meanwhile a large number of True Taste award winning Welsh companies have been honoured at the Great Taste Awards, organised by the Guild of Fine Food Retailers.
Overall there were 93 Gold awards for Welsh producers - with ten producers achieving three star gold, 25 two star gold, and 58 one star gold.
The winning companies received their awards at the ceremony held at Fortnum and Mason in Piccadilly, London.
Among them was three star gold winner Gwaun Valley Meats from Letterston near Haverfordwest whose Pembrokeshire Back Bacon also won the company the ‘Best Welsh Specialty’ title, which is sponsored by the Welsh Assembly Government.
